Birkirkara return to winning ways

Birkirkara scored twice in the second half as they returned to winning ways, defeating Mosta 2-0 in a match from the 360 Sports Malta Premier Opening Round Top 6 at the National Stadium on Friday.

The Stripes, therefore, recovered from the back-to-back defeats to Floriana and Hamrun and made sure of retaining the top spot. Mosta, on the other hand, suffered a second successive defeat.

Following a goalless first half, Birkirkara managed to take the lead seven minutes in the second half when off an assist by Paul Mbong from the right, Shaun Dimech’s fine shot from outside the area gave goalkeeper Udoh David Akpan no chance.

Birkirkara went close to doubling the score ten minutes from time but Alex Satariano’s shot from outside the area hit the crossbar but one minute in added time, off a cross by Satariano from the right, substitute Andrea Zammit rounded three defenders before slotting the ball past Akpan.
