Two penalties enable Floriana to keep the pace with leaders Birkirkara

Floriana scored two penalties as they defeated Hibernians 2-0 in a match from the 360 Sports Malta Premier Opening Round Top 6 at the National Stadium on Saturday.

The Greens therefore kept the pace with leaders Birkirkara, moving three point clear of Sliema Wanderers. Hibernians, on the other hand, remain fourth as they suffered a second successive defeat.

Floriana managed to take the lead on 35 minutes when they were awarded a penalty after Franklin Sasere was fouled inside the area by goalkeeper Hugo Sacco and from the penalty spot, the Nigerian forward beat the Malta Under-21 goalkeeper.

On the 90th, Jake Grech served substitute Mattia Veselji on the right only to be floored by Sacco. Referee Malcolm Spiteri sent off the Hibernians goalkeeper and ordered a penalty. Jake Grech beat Bjorn Kristensen, who took the role of goalkeeper in the dying minutes, from the penalty spot to double the score.
