Hibernians beat Mosta by odd goal in five

Hibernians registered their first win in the 360 Sports Malta Premier Opening Round Top 6 as they defeated Mosta 3-2 at the National Stadium on Saturday.

A win which puts Hibernians just three points behind third-placed Sliema Wanderers, leaving Mosta at the bottom of the Top 6 as the latter suffer a third successive defeat.

Zachary Brincat hit the crossbar for Mosta early in the game but Hibernians took the lead on 26 minutes when following a good move by Giannis Bastianos on the left, Federico Falcone served Khevin Fraga who found Jurgen Degabriele on the right and the Malta international forward lobbed the ball in style over goalkeeper Sean Mintoff.

Seven minutes from the end of the first half, the Paolites doubled the score when Federico Falcone exchanged the ball with Jurgen Degabriele on the left and the Argentine forward unleashed a fine rising shot which gave Mintoff no chance.

Mosta reduced the gap nine minutes in the second half when off a corner from the right, Joao Teixeira rose high to head home past goalkeeper Sanchez.

However, four minutes later, Hibernians made it 3-1 when off a Kurt Shaw throw in from the right, there was a deflection and Federico Falcone served Jurgen Degabriele whose effort hit the crossbar, bouncing onto goalkeeper Mintoff and into the net.

The Blues reduced the gap once again on 72 minutes with a fine volley by substitute Chiemezie Stephen Gabriel which beat the Hibs goalkeeper.
