Ten-man Birkirkara earn point in draw with Sliema

Despite having to play in ten men for over twenty minutes, leaders Birkirkara earned a point in a 1-1 draw with Sliema Wanderers in a match from the 360 Sports Malta Premier Opening Round Top 6 at the National Stadium on Saturday.

A win which puts the Stripes, who have now just won one game out of the last four, three points clear of second-placed Floriana and therefore the Greens could join them on top should they beat Hamrun Spartans on Sunday. Sliema, on the other hand, remain third with this second successive 1-1 draw following the draw with Hamrun Spartans last week.

The Wanderers managed to take the lead on 35 minutes when Simon Zibo released Vito Plut on the left and the latter slotted the ball past goalkeeper Giacomo Volpe.

The Stripes levelled matters eleven minutes in the second half courtesy of Maxuell Samurai who received a through pass on the right and beat goalkeeper Agu Kelvin Emeka.

However, on 70 minutes, Maxuell Samurai received a second yellow card and was therefore sent off by referee Malcolm Spiteri.
