Zabbar St. Patrick claimed three important points in their bid to avoid the bottom two places as they defeated Naxxar Lions 3-0 in a match from the 360 Sports Malta Premier Opening Round Bottom 6 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Sunday.
A win which could see them abandon the bottom spot for the first time this season. In fact, they move to just one point behind Naxxar and at least temporarily, one point ahead of Balzan.
Zabbar took the lead two minutes from the end of the first half thanks to Brian Gambarte whose fine long-distance effort ended in the top right corner behind goalkeeper Matthias Debono.
Nine minutes in the second half, Brian Gambarte doubled the score as he converted a penalty after Stefan Ilic was brought down inside the area by Fernando Barbosa.
Four minutes from time, Zabbar sealed the issue with a third goal, courtesy of substitute Martim Ferreira who slotted the ball home from close range following an assist from the left by Miguel Azzopardi..
