IZIBET Amateur League 1: San Gwann move second

San Gwann moved second in the IZIBET Amateur League 1 as they came from behind to defeat second-placed Luqa St. Andrew’s 4-1 at the Sirens Stadium on Saturday.

Sherif Mohammed Iddrisu put Luqa ahead after just two minutes but Ricardo Nahuel Velasquez equalised ten minutes later. Gonzalo Virano converted a penalty on 17 minutes and two minutes later, Liam Portelli made it 3-1. Matteo Vella scored a fourth goal on the 45th.

A goal one minute in added time by Jamie Camilleri handed Pembroke Athleta a narrow win over Zejtun Corinthians at the Luxol Stadium while in another match at the same venue, a goal by Cedric Zahra on the 14th enabled Xghajra Tornados to beat Mellieha 1-0.

In a match at the Sirens Stadium, Kirkop United beat Msida St. Joseph 3-1. A Ryan Dalli penalty on 16 minutes put Kirkop ahead and although Denzel Camilleri equalised one minute from the end of the first half, Neil Thomas Farrugia made it 2-1 for Kirkop eight minutes in the second half and Dale Tabone sealed the issue with a third goal on the 77th.

Birzebbuga lead the way with 25 points, followed by San Gwann on 22, Luqa and Attard 21, Xghajra 20, Vittoriosa 19, Qrendi 18, Qormi 15, Mellieha and Kirkop 12, Pembroke 6, Gharghur 3, Zejtun, Msida and Marsaskala 2 and Rabat 0.
