Victoria Hotspurs returned to winning ways as a goal by Emmanuel Mbong three minutes from the end of the first half handed them a narrow win over Mdina Knights in a match from the IZIBET Amateur League 2 at the Charles Abela Stadium on Sunday.
St. George’s moved second as they came from behind to beat Sta. Venera Lightnings 6-3 at the Luxol Stadium. Gabriel Paul Borg and Andie Sammut put the Lightnings two goals ahead with goals on the 7th and 16th respectively. An own goal reduced the gap on 27 minutes and towards the end of the first half, goals by Matthew Robert Gauci on the 42nd and Kenneth Aquilina on the 45th turned the score in the favour of St. George’s. Julien Iwueke extended the lead two minutes in the second half and although Jorge Carreno scored a third goal for the Lightnings on the 52nd, goals by Lee James Agius on the 59th and Kenneth Aquilina on the 76th sealed the issue for the Cospicua side.
Mqabba and Dingli Swallows now share the second place with St. George’s following a 2-2 draw at the Sirens Stadium. Ronaldinho Nathaniel Daley put Dingli ahead on the 40th and two minutes later, Jason Camilleri doubled the score. However Andres Tenorio equalised for Mqabba with goals on the 84th and 91st.
Kalkara United defeated Ghaxaq 4-3 at the Luxol Stadium. An own goal put Kalkara ahead on 14 minutes and Tmimothy Thomas scored twice on the 18th and 45th but Ghaxaq reduced the gap thanks to Aaron Agius just before half-time. On the hour, Gaynor D’Amato scored a second goal for Ghaxaq and after Timmy Thomas completed his hat-trick for Kalkara, Agius narrowed the gap four minutes from time.
In another match at the Sirens Stadium, a goal by Isaac Ansanyi handed Siggiewi a narrow win over Ta’ Xbiex.
