Brazilian thirty-one year old winger Alex da Paixão Alves, better known as Lecão, will be playing once again for Birkirkara FC after joining the club from Gzira United.

Throughout his career, Lecao played for AD Bahia, Ferroviario, Colo Colo and Parnahyba in Brazil before moving to Malta to join Tarxien Rainbows. He then joined Balzan but after a spell with Al Akhdood in Saudi Arabia, he returned to Malta to play for Birkirkara and later Balzan. He had another spell in Saudi Arabia, this time with Al Washm and then returned to Malta to join Birkirkara. In summer 2023, he moved to Al Yarmouk in Kuwait but last summer, joined Gzira United.

Meanwhile Birkirkara will not retain Seth Paintsil who joined the club earlier this month. He is one of four players who will not be retained by the club along with Maicon, Óscar Siafa and Latón.
