A goal by Ayrton Attard one minute from the end of the first half handed Valletta a narrow win over Pieta’ Hotspurs in a match from the BOV Challenge League at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday.
At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Sirens and Mgarr United shared the spoils in an entertaining 4-4 draw. Luka Mijic put Mgarr ahead on 5 minutes. Mark Fenech equalised on 25 minutes but Kyle Frendo made it 2-1 on 40 minutes and just before the end of the first half, Luke Mijic extended the lead further. A Thiago Nonato double on 68 and 77 minutes restored equilibrium and Mark Fenech put Sirens ahead for the first time on 79 minutes but Christian Ebisindor Saint converted a penalty for Mgarr five minutes from time.
In another match at the Centenary Stadium, Gudja United and Swieqi United shared the spoils in a goalless draw.
Lija Athletic came back from two goals down to beat Senglea Athletic 3-2 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Rudy Cassar put Senglea ahead after just one minute and Andrej Nakov doubled the score seven minutes later. Jake Jovanoski reduced the gap on 11 minutes and Rundell Winchester equalised on the 26th. Erjon Beu converted a penalty three minutes from time to hand Lija the three points.
Valletta lead the way with 29 points, followed by Swieqi on 22, Marsa 21, Mgarr 20, Tarxien, Santa Lucia and Pieta’ 19, Gudja 18, Sirens and Zurrieq 17, Zebbug 13, Lija 11, Fgura and St. Andrews 9, Senglea 6 and Mtarfa 4.
