BOV Challenge League: Valletta turn defeat into victory

Valletta came from behind to beat Swieqi United 2-1 in a match from the BOV Challenge League at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Saturday.

Terence Vella put Swieqi ahead on 36 minutes but Andrei Ciolacu converted a penalty to level matters and Brandon Paiber notched the winner nine minutes later.

At the Centenary Stadium, Mgarr United scored deep into stoppage time to rescue a point in a 1-1 draw with Lija Athletic. Julian Camilleri put Lija ahead on 39 minutes but Luka Mijic equalised five minutes in added time.

Duvan Mosquera scored four as Zebbug Rangers came from behind to beat Mtarfa 4-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Kieran Paul Fenech put Mtarfa ahead on 23 minutes but Mosquera equalised thirteen minutes in the second half and the same player made it 2-1 eight minutes later. Mosquera sealed the issue with two goals on 89 and 93 minutes.

Fgura United registered a comfortable 5-1 win over Santa Lucia at the Centenary Stadium. Samuel Buhagiar put Fgura ahead on 2 minutes and Timilehin Caleb Akande doubled the score on 18 minutes. Three minutes later, Santa Lucia reduced the gap thanks to Jean Carlos but Donys Quintero made it 3-1 on 41 minutes. Fgura added another two goals in the second half thanks to a Dylan Caruana penalty on 49 minutes and Innocent John Awori on 90 minutes.

Valletta lead the way with 32 points, followed by Marsa on 24, Swieqi and Tarxien 22, Mgarr 21, Santa Lucia and Pieta’ 19, Gudja 18, Sirens and Zurrieq 17, Zebbug 16, Fgura 15, Lija 12, St. Andrews 9, Mtarfa 7, and Senglea 6.
