Vittoriosa Stars joined Birzebbuga St. Peter’s on top the IZIBET Amateur League 1 table as they defeated Pembroke Athleta 2-0 at the Sirens Stadium on Sunday.
Aidan Agius Gilford put the Stars ahead on 9 minutes and Joseph Jojo Ogunnupe doubled the score on the 90th.
On the other hand, Birzebbuga St. Peter’s lost 0-1 to San Gwann at the Sirens Stadium with John Mintoff notching the winner for Xavier Saliba’s side three minutes from time.
Luqa St. Andrew’s maintained the challenge for promotion thanks to a 3-0 win over Qormi at the Centenary Staidum. Jake Stensen put Luqa ahead on 33 minutes and eight minutes in the second half, Fred Kessie doubled the score. Thomas Francis Grech made it 3-0 seven minutes from time.
A brace by Sebastian Perdomo Esquivel handed Attard a 2-1 win over Xghajra Tornados at the Sirens Stadium. Perdomo put Attard ahead on 37 minutes and doubled the score on 53 minutes with Kenneth Abela reducing the gap four minutes from time.
On the other hand, a goal by Kurt Theuma on the 69th handed Qrendi a narrow win over Mellieha at the Charles Abela Stadium.
Zejtun Corinthians obtained a fourth consecutive positive result, beating Marsaskala 3-2 at the Charles Abela Stadium. Isaac Micallef put Zejtun ahead on 21 mintues but two minutes in the second half, James Oghenekewaro levelled matters. Francisco Arriagada made it 2-1 and Stefi Cale extended the lead further for Zejtun but Joshua Ojelabi converted a penalty to reduce the gap.
Rabat Ajax bounced back from the heavy defeat to Marsaskala in their last outing as they beat Msida St. Joseph 5-1 at the Centenary Stadium. Jake Cordina put the Magpies ahead on 17 minutes and although Yuya Emura levelled matters for Msida four minutes later, Rabat regained the lead thanks to Francis Amaechi Onwuzo on 56 minutes. Three minutes later, Ousman Ismaila made it 3-1 and goals by Onwuzo on 66 minutes and Zachary Tanti on 75 minutes extended the lead further.
Birzebbuga and Vittoriosa lead the way with 31 points, followed by San Gwann on 29, Luqa 27, Xghajra and Attard 24, Qrendi and Qormi 21, Kirkop 13, Mellieha and Zejtun 12, Gharghur and Pembroke 7, Marsaskala and Rabat 6 and Msida 3.
