Floriana scored deep into stoppage time to beat a Sliema Wanderers side reduced to ten men 2-1 in a match from the 360Sports Malta Premier Closing Round at the National Stadium on Saturday.
The Greens regain the top spot, on 14 points, two points ahead of Marsaxlokk while Sliema Wanderers remain on the nine-point mark as they suffer a third defeat in four matches – the fourth defeat in the Closing Round.
Floriana managed to take the lead on 8 minutes when off an inviting cross by Guy Yameogo, Matias Garcia beat goalkeeper Emeka Kelvin Agu.
On 22 minutes, the Wanderers were reduced to ten men after Murilo Freire was sent off by referee Philip Farrugia.
However, six minutes in the second half, Sliema levelled matters courtesy of Vito Plut who slotted the ball past goalkeeper Christoffer Mafoumbi after receiving a cross by Wescley from the left.
The game seemed heading for a draw but three minutes in added time, substitute Gabriel Sotomayor headed the ball over goalkeeper Agu following a short clearance by Gustavo Alcino.
