Birkirkara, Floriana and Hamrun Spartans secured a spot in the semi-finals of the Meridianbet FA Trophy on Wednesday.
At the National Stadium, Birkirkara came from behind to beat BOV Challenge League side Valletta 3-1 after extra-time.
Following a goalless first half, Jefferson Ferreira put the Citizens ahead on 68 minutes as he beat goalkeeper Matthew Grech with a shot from the right, deflected by Paparazov. However, eight minutes later, Manuel Morello delivered a cross from the left and Leandro Lacunza headed home from close range.
The game, therefore, went into extra-time and Alessandro Coppola beat goalkeeper Timothy Aquilina with a powerful drive from outside the area on 96 minutes and after Valletta had Enzo Ruiz sent off, Paul Mbong made it 3-1 when he pounced on an erratic back-header and slotted the ball past the Valletta custodian.
In the semi-finals, Birkirkara will be facing Floriana who beat Mosta 2-0 at the Tony Bezzina Stadium.
Fernandinho Junior put the Greens ahead three minutes from the end of the first half, beating goalkeeper Udoh David Akpan with a diagonal shot when served on the left by Dunstan Vella. The same Dunstan Vella doubled the score twelve minutes from time with a shot by from the right when served by Gabriel Sotomayor from the left.
Meanwhile Hamrun Spartans eliminated Sliema Wanderers after beating them 2-0 at the Tony Bezzina Stadium.
Raphael Lopes put the Spartans ahead on 15 minutes when he lobbed the ball over goalkeeper Emeka Kelvin Agu. Lopes doubled the score on 27 minutes, hitting home off the rebound after a Cesar Menacho effort from the left hit the crossbar.












The last quarter-final will be played on Thursday between Hibernians and Naxxar Lions.
