Pieta’ Hotspurs missed a good opportunity to close in on second-placed Swieqi United as they were held in a 3-3 draw by Santa Lucia in a match from the BOV Challenge League Top 8 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Sunday.
Hidesato Ueda put the Hotspurs ahead on 45 minutes and goals by Sheldon Borg on 59 minutes and Kian Leonardi on 75 minutes put them 3-0 ahead. However a penalty by Emmanuel Asante on 78 minutes, an own goal on 83 minutes and a goal by Bahri Hanan two minutes later enabled Santa Lucia to rescue a point.
Meanwhile Valletta moved fifteen points clear as they defeated Mgarr United 2-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.
Keyon Ewurum put Valletta ahead on 28 minutes and eight minutes later, Paul Lapira doubled the score. Christian Ebisindor Saint converted a penalty for Mgarr on 65 minutes.
On the other hand, Zurrieq defeated Marsa 2-0 at the Centenary Stadium thanks to a brace by Sulahmana Mamadu Bah on 17 and 94 minutes.
Valletta lead the way with 50 points, followed by Swieqi on 35, Tarxien 32, Pieta’ 31, Marsa 29, Santa Lucia and Zurrieq 28 and Mgarr 27.
In the Play-Out, Fgura United beat Senglea Athletic 2-0 at the Centenary Stadium thanks to goals by Michael Gatt on 18 minutes and Innocent John Awori on 66 minutes.
In the Play-Out, Fgura lead the way with 30 points, followed by Sirens on 24, Gudja 23, St. Andrews 22, Zebbug 18, Lija 15, Mtarfa 14 and Senglea 13.
