Hamrun Spartans have appointed Winston Muscat as their new coach. He takes over from Alessandro Zinnari after the club decided to part ways with the former Santa Lucia coach following the defeat to Mosta on Sunday.
In the Opening Round league phase, Hamrun placed sixth, securing a Top 6 spot, despite losing five of the eleven matches played, collecing fourteen points thanks to four wins and two draws. In the Top 6, they registered three wins, a draw and a defeat. However, in the Closing Round league phase they have already lost three games out of the nine played earning fourteen points in four wins and two draws.
Winston Muscat, who throughout his career, coached a number of clubs including St. Patrick, Vittoriosa Stars, Naxxar Lions, Pembroke Athleta, Tarxien Rainbows, Sirens and Marsaxlokk apart from the Malta Under-19 national team, had started the season with Marsaxlokk but was sacked in September after a poor start by the Southseasiders.
In a statement, the Spartans thanked Zinnari for leading the club to winning the BOV Super Cup, reaching the semi-finals of the Meridianbet FA Trophy along with “providing significant playing time for home grown talent from the club academy and enhancing the technical abilities of individual players.”
