Birkirkara beat Floriana to move top

Birkirkara defeated Floriana 2-0 in a match from the 360Sports Malta Premier Closing Round at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Wednesday.

The Stripes scored twice in two minutes, towards the end of the first half, to move top on 19 points, one ahead of the Greens.

Birkirkara took the lead on 35 minutes when Lecao sent Maxuell Samurai through and the latter’s low shot could only be slightly deflected by the Floriana goalkeeper.

Two minutes later, the Stripes doubled the score when following a good move between Alex Satariano and Paul Mbong, the latter served Leandro Lacunza on the right and off the Argentinian’s cross, Maxuell Maia tried his luck with an angled shot from the left with Satariano placing the ball at the back of the net.

Birkirkara received a first set-back on 67 minutes when Manuel Morello was sent off after receiving a second yellow card for a reckless tackle and five minutes in added time, another two players were sent off – Fernandinho of Floriana for kicking an opponent and Birkirkara goalkeeper Giacomo Volpe for pushing the Floriana midfielder.
