Bjorn Vassallo misses out on UEFA Executive Committee post

Malta FA President Bjorn Vassallo missed out on a spot in the UEFA Executive Commiittee after obtaining 18 votes and placing third in the vote for two positions on the UEFA ExCo for a two-year term.

The 49th Ordinary UEFA Congress was held on Thursday in Belgrade, Serbia/

Rafael Louzan Abal (ESP) and Moshe Zuares (ISR) obtained 32 and 31 votes respectively and were therefore elected.

Bjorn Vassallo (MLT) obtained 18, Andrii Shevchenko (UKR) 15 and Vadims Ļašenko (LVA) 11.

In the election for seven positions on the UEFA Executive Committee for a four-year term,  Frank Paauw (NED) 49 votes, Gabriele Gravina (ITA) 48, Hans-Hoachm Watzke (GER) 48, Marjan Kustic (CRO) 42, Ari Lahti (FIN) 41, Aivar Pohlak (EST) and Armen Melikbekyan (ARM) were elected while the candidates to miss out were: Cezary Kulesza (POL) 21, Hugo Quaderer (LIE) 19, Dominique Blanc (SUI) 11 and  Pedro Proença (POR) 7.

Lise Klaveness (NOR) was elected by acclamation for the post of one female member position for a four-year term.

Gabriele Gravina was appointed first UEFA vice-president, while Hans-Joachim Watzke and Jesper Møller Christensen were appointed UEFA vice-presidents. Sándor Csányi was appointed UEFA Treasurer with a status of UEFA vice-president during the Constitutive UEFA Executive Committee meeting which followed the UEFA Congress.

Meanwhile  the congress elected the following candidates by acclamation for:

• one female member position on the FIFA Council for a four-year term:

Pascale Van Damme (BEL)

• four member positions on the FIFA Council for a four-year term

• Răzvan Burleanu (ROM) 

• Georgios Koumas (CYP) 

• Bernd Neuendorf (GER) 

• Dejan Savićević (MNE)
