BOV Challenge League: Tarxien Rainbows move three points clear of Swieqi

Tarxien Rainbows moved three points clear of Swieqi United in the battle for promotion as they defeated Marsa 4-1 in a match from BOV Challenge League Top 8 at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday.

Claudio Murici put the Rainbows ahead on 9 minutes and Dacosta Boadu doubled the score. Jake Engerer converted a penalty on 61 minutes but Zachary Brincat scored twice on 74 and 82 minutes to seal the issue for Tarxien.

Champions Valletta lead the way with 56 points, followed by Tarxien on 38, Swieqi 35, Pieta’ 34, Zurrieq and Santa Lucia 31, Mgarr 30 and Marsa 29.

In the Play-Out, St. Andrews beat Zebbug Rangers 5-2 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium but the Rangers are now sure of retaining their status. Nathan Sultana put St. Andrews ahead on 8 minutes and Mattia Galliano scored twice on 18 and 42 minutes. Duvan Mosquera converted a penalty eleven minutes in the second half but the Saints hit back with goals by Aleksa Zivkovic on 69 minutes and Timothy Cassar Torreggiani on 75 minutes. Duvan Mosquera scored another goal for the Rangers on 90 minutes.

Mtarfa claimed three important points in a 3-1 win over Gudja United in another match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Darren Falzon put Mtarfa ahead on 33 minutes and seven minutes later, Ayrton Azzopardi doubled the score. Dale Mifsud pulled one back just before the end of the first half but Joseph Chilaka Agbakwuru made it 3-1 on 78 minutes.

On the other hand, Senglea Athletic and Lija Athletic shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the Centenary Stadium, goals by Erjon Beu on 11 minutes for Lija and George Tetteh Attram on 26 minutes for Senglea.

In the Play-Out, Fgura lead the way with 36 points, followed by Gudja on 26, St. Andrews 28, Sirens 24, Zebbug 21, Mtarfa 17, Lija 16 and Senglea 14.
