BOV Challenge League: Mtarfa retain status as Lija Athletic, Senglea Athletic are relegated

Lija Athletic and Senglea Athletic were relegated from the BOV Challenge League after three decisive matches from the Play-Out were played on Saturday.

Mtarfa secured their status as they defeated Fgura United 3-2 at the Centenary Stadium. Joseph Chilaka Agbakwuru put Mtarfa ahead on 11 minutes and although Timilehin Caleb Akande equalised on 47 minutes, Agbakwuru made it 2-1 on 50 minutes. Agbakwuru added another five minutes from time although Andrew Xuereb scored a second goal for Fgura in added time.

Goals by Erjon Beu on 39 minutes, Iury on 53 minutes and Ronald Makalysten on 72 minutes handed Lija Athletic a 3-0 win over Zebbug Rangers at the Sirens Stadium.

On the other hand, at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Sirens came from behind to beat Senglea Athletic 2-1. A penalty by George Tetteh Attram on 29 minutes put Senglea ahead but Thiago Nonato equalised on 77 minutes and Mason Agius notched the winner four minutes from time.

Meanwhile in another match, St. Andrews and Gudja United shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, goals by Mattia Galliano on 8 minutes for St. Andrews and Diego on 89 minutes for Gudja.

In the Play-Out, Fgura lead the way with 36 points, followed by St. Andrews on 29, Gudja and Sirens 27, Zebbug 21, Mtarfa 20, Lija 19 and Senglea 14.
