Tarxien Rainbows will be playing in the Malta Premier next season after placing in the runner-up position in the BOV Challenge League thanks to a goalless draw with Mgarr United in a match from the Top 8 at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday.
The Rainbows therefore earned the point they needed to secure promotion. This will be a return to the top division after an absence of four years.
In another match, Swieqi United and Santa Lucia shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Andreas Vella put Santa Lucia ahead on 24 minutes. Alan Schembri Wismayer equalised on 68 minutes but Salam Kojo Mawuena made it 2-1 on 71 minutes. Michael Micallef equalised two minutes in added time.
At the Centenary Stadium, Zurrieq and Pieta’ Hotspurs shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw. Gabriel Xuereb put the Hotspurs ahead on 73 minutes but Sulahmana Mamadu Bah converted a penalty to level matters eight minutes from time.
Valletta ended their commitments on 59 points, followed by Tarxien on 39, Swieqi 36, Pieta’ 35, Zurrieq and Santa Lucia 32, Mgarr 31 and Marsa 29.
