Balzan returned to winning ways as they defeated Melita 3-1 in a match from the 360Sports Malta Premier Closing Round Bottom 6 at the National Stadium on Sunday.
A first win after earning just five points from the last seven matches thanks to five draws. Balzan are now third from bottom on 14 points, followed by Naxxar on 13 and Melita 10. For Melita, this was the fourth successive defeat as they have now gone seven matches without a win.
Following a goalless first half, Balzan took the lead five minutes in the second half when off a cross by Rafael Floro from the left, Udoyen Akpan slotted the ball past goalkeeper Aleksander Lubik.
Melita equalised seven minutes later courtesy of Aldair Simanca who hit home from close range after the Melita goalkeeper failed the hold the ball off an Alan Borg Olivier corner.
However, Balzan regained the lead on 75 minutes thanks to Awosanya Oluwatobiloba Dimeji who hit low past Lubik when served by Jan Busuttil.
Two minutes in added time, Busuttil sent Awosanya Oluwatobiloba Dimeji through and the latter rounded a defender before beating Lubik with a shot from the edge of the area.
