Sliema Wanderers edge past Birkirkara to go top

Sliema Wanderers moved top as they defeated Birkirkara 1-0 in a match from the 360Sports Malta Premier Closing Round Top 6 at the National Stadium on Sunday.

This was the fifth win on the trot for Paul Zammit’s side and the second win in fifteen days for Sliema over Birkirkara. For the Stripes, this was the third consecutive defeat.

Sliema scored the all-important goal on 36 minutes when Vito Plut served Mohamed Awad from the right with the New Zealand-born forward hitting the ball in the top left corner behind goalkeeper Giacomo Volpe.
