IZIBET Amateur League 1: Marsaskala, Gharghur relegated

Marsaskala and Gharghur were relegated to the National Amateur League 2 along with Rabat Ajax and Msida St. Joseph after both suffered defeats in the IZIBET Amateur League 1 Play-Out on Saturday.

At the Centenary Stadium, Pembroke Athleta secured their status thanks to a 2-1 win over Gharghur. A result which condemned Gharghur to relegation. Weverton Gomes put Pembroke ahead on 2 minutes and Jayden Fenech doubled the score on 21 minutes. Miguel Simiana reduced the gap on 29 minutes.

On the other hand, Marsaskala lost 2-5 to Mellieha at the Sirens Stadium. Christopher Galea put Marsaskala ahead three minutes from the end of the first half but Malcolm Vella Vidal equalised just before half-time. Daniel Oluwatobi Ighalo made it 2-1 for Mellieha on 57 minutes and two minutes later, Sasa Glumac increased the lead. Michael Camilleri converted a penalty for Mellieha on 79 minutes and although Charlo Buttigieg reduced the gap for Marsaskala on 87 minutes, Liam Spiteri made it 5-2 two minutes in added time.

In another match, a Brandon Bray brace handed Qrendi a 2-1 win over Kirkop United at the Sirens Stadium. Bray put Qrendi ahead on 25 minutes and doubled the score on 76 minutes. Dale Tabone converted a penalty three minutes in added time to reduce the gap.
