Floriana lie just three points away from securing the 360Sports Malta Premier title after they defeated Mosta 3-0 in a match from the Top 6 at the National Stadium on Sunday.

In fact, although they are on level points with Marsaxlokk, having a better record in the direct encounter would put them on top and since they had already finished the Opening Round on top, they would be declared champions.

Hamrun and Sliema trail by one point with Birkirkara fifth, three points behind the joint-leaders.

On Wednesday, Floriana take on Birkirkara, Marsaxlokk face Hamrun Spartans while Sliema Wanderers meet Mosta.

Floriana took the lead on 8 minutes when Fernandinho’s freekick from the right was not held by goalkeeper Anse Ngoubi Demba. 

On the hour, Matthew Bolanos floored Franklin Sasere inside the area but the Nigerian forward’s effort was blocked by Ngoubi Demba.

However the Greens doubled the score on 63 minutes when off a Gonzalo Gamarra freekick from the left, Matias Garcia headed the ball home past goalkeeper Ngoubi Demba. 

Substitute Elvis Mashike made it 3-0 six minutes from time, with a shot from inside the area off a cross from the right.
