Naxxar Lions will be playing once again in the Malta Premier next season after defeating Melita 1-0 in the 360Sports Malta Premier relegation decider at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Friday.

While Balzan were relegated last week after finishing both Opening and Closing Rounds in the bottom two places, a relegation decider was necessary between Naxxar Lions and Melita after they ended the Opening Round and Closing Round respectively in one of the two bottom places.

After this defeat, Melita will be making a return to the Challenge League after just one season among the elite.

The Lions scored the all-important goal just before half-time, three minutes in added time, when off an Edson Farias freekick from the left, Hugo Santos headed the ball home past goalkeeper Gosef Mizzi.
