New National Football Centre to host National Team open training session

For the first time, the new National Football Centre in Ta’ Qali will be welcoming Maltese supporters to attend an open training session of the Maltese national team, just a few days before the home match against Lithuania this Saturday and the away match against the Netherlands on 10 June.

Under the guidance of Head Coach Emilio De Leo, the Malta squad are training on Tuesday at 6:15p.m. at the Malta FA Training Grounds and the supporters and the general public are invited to follow this open training session.

At the end of the session, the attending fans will have the opportunity to meet the players forming part of the national squad for this month’s international commitments. The players have been following a detailed and rigorous training programme leading up to these two qualifying matches and the Malta Football Association wanted to give the public the opportunity to get close to the team as they step up their final preparations.

This will also be the first time the public will be able to see the important infrastructural developments and modernisation works taking place at the Association’s facilities within the sports complex in Ta’ Qali.

The newly-constructed centre will offer several facilities, including a Category 1 Stadium compliant with UEFA requirements, a medical and sports science area, a relaxation zone for players, an administrative area, conference facilities, and more.

Besides its domestic use, the National Football Centre will also elevate the level of sports tourism. The Centre is expected to be inaugurated in the final quarter of this year, with the Malta FA Technical Centre’s operations and all logistics of the national teams being relocated to the new building, which will be fully equipped to serve as the hub for the work of the technical sector.

Entry to tomorrow’s training session will be free of charge, and the public will be guided to access the National Football Centre via a separate entrance next to the building. The public is encouraged to attend and be part of this exciting experience alongside our national team.

The National Football Centre is a joint investment co-funded by the Malta Football Association and the National Development and Social Fund.
