Malta FA acquires unique book signed by over 230 current and former National Team players

The Malta Football Association on Wednesday made a substantial donation to Caritas Malta to acquire a unique book signed by current and former National Team players.

Formed in 1968, Caritas Malta is an agency that seeks to alleviate poverty and promote human development and social justice in the community.

The donation ceremony, forming part of the Malta FA’s 125th anniversary celebrations, saw the Association donate €5,000 to the agency, while acquiring a unique signature book in return.

The book, which is officially registered by a notary and named ‘Malta All-Time National Football Players’, is an initiative that was launched by former National Team player Jimmy Briffa.

Mr Briffa dedicated a significant amount of time and effort to collecting these signatures and compiling this book, making this an outstanding showcase of Malta’s rich football history.

The ceremony took place at the Malta FA Museum of Football in the presence of Malta FA officials, led by President Bjorn Vassallo. There were also former National Team players Joe Cini and Miguel Mifsud in attendance, as well as representatives from Caritas Malta, including CEO Anthony Gatt. Also present Antoinette Vassallo, the wife of the late Willie Vassallo, former Gżira United, Floriana and Malta national team player.

The ceremony started with a tour at the Malta Museum of Football, allowing the Caritas Malta representatives to learn more about the history and importance of football in the Maltese Islands.

The book was handed over to Mr Cini, who proceeded to place it in a display case at the Malta Museum of Football.

President Vassallo expressed gratitude on the behalf of the Malta FA for this initiative, stating that this will add great value to the Malta Museum of Football, continuing to enrich its vast collection of memorabilia.

Mr Gatt thanked Mr Briffa for compiling the book and the Malta FA for its act of solidarity in favour of individuals who are working hard on their rehabilitation.

The Malta FA’s 125 Years Anniversary events are targeting initiatives which can leave a mark in social responsibility and inclusion within our community.
