Valletta sign Yuri Messias

Valletta secured the services of Brazilian thirty-three year old forward Yuri Messias.

After playing for Boavista SC, Imperial FC, CS Paraibano in Brazil, Yuri had moved to Malta in summer 2013 to join Mosta. The following season, he joined Msida St. Joseph where he spent two years before moving to Naxxar Lions where he spent another two years. In summer 2018, he joined Nadur Youngsters but in the January transfer window, he moved to Saudi Arabia where he was playing for Al Jabalain. He joined Valletta in summer 2019 but mid-way through the season moved to Frederiquense in Brazil. In summer 2020, he moved back to Malta to join Gudja United but in January 2021, signed for East Riffa in Bahrain. Yuri spent season 2021/22 with Gzira United before moving to Japan to join Tiamo Hirakata but in January 2023, moved back to East Riffa. He returned to Malta the following summer to join Marsaxlokk.

The Citizens, who have confirmed Thane Micallef as their coach, had earlier signed goalkeeper Adilson Maringá, Mattias Ellul, Yannick Yankam, Thomas Melillo, Sava Radic, Shaft Brewer Jr, Emmanuel Mbende, Jackson Mendoza and Thaylor and agreed deals with goalkeeper Timmy Aquilina, Zachary Cassar, Neil Micallef, Rowen Muscat and Andrea Zammit but James Scicluna, Peter Xuereb, Ayrton Attard, Neil Tabone, Christian Gauci, Enoch Mushagalusa, Enzo Ruiz, Aidan Friggieri and Jefferson Ferreira were not retained.
