Decisive matches are in programme this weekend as the YoHealth Malta Premier Opening Round comes to an end.
So far, Floriana are sure of securing one of the top two spots while Tarxien Rainbows are sure of ending their commitments at the bottom of the table.
Floriana and Hamrun Spartans are engaged in the battle for the top spot while Valletta still stand a chance of overtaking the Spartans to take second place.
On Saturday, Floriana take on eternal rivals Valletta while Hamrun Spartans face Sliema Wanderers.
Lying one point ahead of the Spartans, Floriana will end first and therefore win the Opening Round with a win over Valletta. In case of a draw, they would have to hope Hamrun fail to beat Sliema.
If Hamrun win and Floriana fail to beat Valletta, the Spartans would end their commitments first and Floriana take second place.
A decider for the top spot would be necessary between Floriana and Hamrun if the Greens lose to Valletta and the Spartans are held in a draw by Sliema.
On the other hand, Valletta need to beat Floriana and hope Hamrun lose to Sliema to maintain hopes of a second place as then a decider would be necessary between Valletta and Hamrun with the Greens taking the top spot.
Meanwhile Mosta, Zabbar St. Patrick and Naxxar Lions are still involved in the battle to avoid the second place from bottom. Mosta take on Hibernians, Zabbar face Gzira United while Naxxar meet Tarxien Rainbows.
Lying one point ahead of Naxxar, Mosta and Zabbar need a win to avoid this spot.
In case of a win for Naxxar and a defeat for either Mosta and Zabbar, the Lions would secure avoid the second place for bottom.
In case either Mosta and Zabbar lose and Naxxar are held in a draw by Tarxien, a decider would be necessary between the losing team and Naxxar.
On the other hand, if Naxxar are held by Tarxien and both Mosta and Zabbar lose, a decider would be necessary between Naxxar and Zabbar as although Mosta would have the same number of points, they would have a better record in the direct encounters.
