Qormi moved to just two points behind second-placed Victoria Hotspurs in the BOV Amateur League I as they defeated Zejtun Corinthians 5-0 at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday. A result which condemned Zejtun to playing in the National Amateur League II next season.
David Emmanuel Garba put Qormi ahead on 8 minutes and Neil Tabone doubled the score on 23 minutes. Two minutes later, Dale Mifsud made it 3-0. Qormi extended the lead in the dying minutes thanks to goals by Garba on 80 minutes and Innocent John Awori one minute in added time.
Victoria Hotspurs, on the other hand, saw Senglea Athletic come from behind to beat them 3-1 in another match at the Centenary Stadium. Christian Saint Ebisindor put the Hotspurs ahead on 38 minutes but Kieran Curmi equalised four minutes in the second half and Rudy Cassar scored twice on 53 and 95 minutes.
In another match, Lija Athletic defeated San Gwann 4-3 in a seven-goal thriller. Myron Micallef put San Gwann ahead on 4 minutes but Erjon Beu equalised a minute later. Wagner made it 2-1 for Lija ten minutes in the second half and eight minutes later, Erjon Beu extended the lead further. However an own goal on 73 minutes and a goal by Myron Micallef restored equilibrium. However, Juan Ruiz notched the winner for Lija on the 90th.
Attard lead the way with 60 points, followed by Victoria Hotspurs on 51, Qormi 49, Mqabba 48, Lija 46, Senglea 31, Mellieha, Qrendi and San Gwann 30, Kirkop, Pembroke and Xghajra 25, Zejtun 22 and Luqa 21.
