The Malta FA released a statement following the power cuts during the UEFA Conference League second qualifying round match between Floriana and Drita at the Centenary Stadium.
The association said that the power outage was caused by a fault in a nearby substation, which affected several areas, including Ta’ Qali. Due to this fault, a generator had to be used, which also had difficulties in operating stably due to the high temperatures.
Despite these challenges and the interruptions that occurred on more than one occasion towards the end of the match, this match was able to continue and be completed using the generator.
It is important to clarify that none of these interruptions were caused by a fault in the floodlights at the Centenary Stadium. The cause was related to an external power supply service and was therefore completely outside the control of the Malta Football Association.
