The Malta Football Association has temporarily suspended Matthias Debono pending the final outcome of proceedings before its Control, Discipline and Ethics – Integrity Board.

The decision follows a Police investigation and charges brought before the Court in connection with the Valletta FC vs Gżira United FC FA Trophy Final (2025/26). The allegations fall under the Malta FA’s regulations concerning bribery and illicit betting in football.

The suspension will remain in place pending the final decision in the proceedings.

The Malta FA will not make any further comment on the matter until the proceedings have been concluded and a final decision has been reached.
