Hamrun Spartans registered their first win as they came from behind to beat Zabbar St. Patrick 2-1 in a match from the VBET Malta Premier Opening Round league phase at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday.
A win which puts Marco Amelia’s side on level points with Zabbar and Hibernians on four points, two behind Birkirkara and Sliema Wanderers.
The Saints had one change from the team which drew with Hibernians as Vinicius Kanu replaced Adnan Basic. The Spartans had goalkeeper Gabriele Marchegiani making his debut while Kean Scicluna, Ryan Camenzuli, Ante Coric and Marcello Trotta were handed a start as they replaced Celio, Sven Xerri, Vincenzo Polito, Saliou Thioune and Damir Ceter.
Zabbar managed to take the lead on 16 minutes when they were awarded a penalty after Kean Scicluna floored Vinicius Kanu inside the area and from the penalty spot, Mario Fontanella converted.
However, Hamrun equalised on the half hour. Ante Coric provided the pass from the left and Marcelo hit low past goalkeeper Patrik Mohorovic.
The Spartans went 2-1 ahead on 74 minutes thanks to Marcello Trotta who hit home after Patrik Mohorovic had saved partially another attempt.
