Hamrun Spartans announced that they had parted ways with Head Coach Giacomo Modica by mutual consent.
In a statement signed by club CEO Marcel Bonnici, the club said “We announce this decision with immense pain and disappointment. Coach Modica will always be remembered for the historic achievement of leading the Club to the Group Phase of the UEFA Conference League campaign — a first in Maltese football history.”
“The Club sincerely thanks him for his dedication and services during his tenure and wishes him the very best in his future endeavors.”
Modica had joined the Spartans last summer, leading the club to a historic participation in the league phase of the UEFA Conference League. However, on the domestic front, they disappointed with a third place finish in the YoHealth Malta Premier, a defeat to Hibernians in BOV Super Cup and elimination from the quarter-finals of both the Meridianbet FA Trophy and Malta FA Jubilee Cup.
The Spartans have so far signed Jake Grech, Ante Coric, Lucas Villela, Jack Ipalibo, Tobias Bjørnstad, Emmanuel Ernest and Messie Biatoumoussoka and renewed the contracts of Damir Ceter, Emerson Marcelina and Rafael Compri while confirming the departure of Henry Bonello and Joseph Mbong apart from Jonny, Mouad El Fanis, Blessing Eleke, Ivan Inzoudine and Michele Carboni.
