Naxxar Lions and Tarxien Rainbows, who were relegated from the Malta Premier, will be facing Pieta’ Hotspurs and Mgarr United respectively in Match Day 1 of the BOV Challenge League 2026/27. The draws were held by Stewart Said – Manager Football Operations at the Malta FA and Jonathan Debono.

Newly-promoted Attard and Victoria Hotspurs, on the other hand, will meet Swieqi United and St Andrews respectively.

In the other matches, Gudja United take on Melita, Zebbug Rangers face Fgura United, Santa Lucia meet Vittoriosa Stars while Sirens face Zurrieq.

Once again, the Challenge League will be divided into two phases. During the First Phase, the league shall be played by all the sixteen clubs on a single round-robin basis. At the end of the First Phase, the top eight teams shall play against each other on a Single Round Robin basis in the Top Eight Round while the  bottom eight shall play against each other on a Single Round Robin basis in the Play-Out Round. 

At the end of the Second Phase, the winner of the Top 8 shall be declared champion and shall be promoted to the Malta Premier along with the Runner-Up. On the other hand, the teams placed in the last two places of the Play-Out Round shall be relegated to the National League 1.
