Birkirkara, Hibernians and Valletta will be taking part in a quadrangular tournament called the Gozo Cup which will be organised by the Gozo Football Association, in collaboration with the Parliamentary Secretariat for Public Dialogue and Information, between Friday 19th and Sunday 21st February.
The fourth team in the tournament will be the Gozo selection – Gozo XI.
Parliamentary Secretary for Public Dialogue and Information Chris Said praised this initiative saying that this will continue to strengthen sports tourism in Gozo. He said that hopefully this will be an annual event and that similar events will be held in other sports such as horse-racing.
Gozo Football Association president Alvin Grech thanked the three Maltese clubs for accepting the invitation.
Those buying tickets for the tournament from the Gozo Channel offices in Cirkewwa will be getting a free ferry ticket to travel to Gozo.
The semi-finals will be held on Friday with the winners facing each other in the final and the losers meeting in the final for third and fourth place.
In the mean time, a number of tournaments for the Under-8, Under-10 and Under-12 categories will be held at various venues around Gozo.
