Sliema Wanderers Football Club announced that the official inauguration of the Midi Sliema Wanderers Sports Complex will be taking place this Saturday. A whole day of events and entertainment is in line to mark the return of the Sports Complex at Tigné Point where it originally was.
The football pitch located in the Tigné area which was the training grounds for the Sliema Wanderers Football Team and the Sliema Wanderers Nursery gave way for the area development by MIDI in late 2000 which saw the mostly run-down area make way for luxury apartments and a modern cosmopolitan shopping complex that the locals are proud of.
The surrender of pitch by the SWFC to MIDI developments was carried out on a promise that a state of the art sports complex would be returned to the club. The complex was built and completed to accommodate a full-size football pitch, a fully equipped Gym, Conference room, Committee/Technical Staff rooms, Dressing rooms, Nursery quarters and two indoor multi-purpose pitches that can house a number of sport disciplines. The complex also boasts of other areas including a pool therapy/wellnes area that fitness fans and sportsmen alike look for; in the ultimate sports centre.
This Saturday, a number of activities and entertainment events are being prepared for the general public who is invited to visit the complex which will be officially inaugurated by the Prime Minister, Dr. Lawrence Gonzi and Mr. Steve Abela, SWFC President at 3.00pm.
Amongst the fun activities for adults and kids, being organised, the public will be invited for nutrition talks, football matches and sessions of Pilates and Aerobics. Kids will enjoy jumping around in the Bouncy Castle whilst those who do not wish to get an active taste of what the complex will offer, will be entertained by local talents such as Christabelle Borg and Thea Saliba.
All SWFC fans, ex-players, ex-committee members and those interested in checking out the new complex or looking for a fun day out are invited to attend this event at Tigné Point this Saturday.
