A delegation from Valletta FC led by the President Mr. Victor Sciriha and his wife Gillian, and consisting also of team manager Jesmond Zammit and Andrew Grima (from Valletta F.C. official website) visited Mr Joe and Mrs Georgina Zahra at their residence in Birkirkara.
The occasion, which has now become an annual appointment, was held in honour of the late and most beloved Valletta supporter, Roderick Zahra, who had passed away on 30th July 2007, soon after Mr.Sciriha’s official appointment as Valletta President.
The Valletta delegation was received within the family and made welcome where Georgina soon started to bring out all kinds of nibbles, food and drinks which she had prepared for the occasion. Keen Valletta supporters, also members of the family, Charles and Graziella Camilleri (Roderick’s uncle and cousin) were also present amongst other family members who were all there to show their appreciation to their beloved Mr. Sciriha who is still cherished by the family for having visited Roderick at Hospital minutes before he had left his family and friends to go and meet the Risen Lord at the tender age of 22 years.
Photographs of family members, and Valletta officials, with the trophies secured by the Club during this last Year were taken. Photographs and souvenirs of the Club could be seen everwhere , most of which were left untouched where Roderick himself had left them. Mr.Sciriha was handed a gift by Mr.and Mrs Zahra by way of appreciation.
Roderick Zahra, born on 29th November 1984, used to form part of the Nursery at Valletta F.C., and later moved to become one of the most renowned supporters of the Club, hardly ever missing one single match. His unexpected death is still referred to by most of Valletta supporters as a loss of a precious jewel to all who knew him. His uncle, Charles Camilleri, has also keenly supported Valletta F.C. since his childhood, whilst Charlie’s daughter Graziella, was referred to by Georgina for having literally taken over Roderick’s love and affection for the Lillywhites, going to the Ground every single time that her idols were due to play, immaterial of adverse weather conditions.
It was only just beyond 2300 hrs, that a happy, down to earth, Mr.Sciriha and his team, left the Zahra residence with a full stomach , but more so satisfied of having made this united family so happy by bringing memories of what their beloved son Roderick used to adore so much.
