Mdina Knights Football Club's 5th Anniversary

Mdina Knights Football Club, created by four founding members Gilbert Camilleri, Matthew Paris, Keith Galea and Sean Buhagiar, celebrates its 5th Year Anniversary on May 25th 2011.

The Knights, as they are affectionately known, have participated with great success in the Third Division Championship for the past five seasons.

After narrowly missing out on a play-off place in season 2007/08, only the second season after the formation of the Club, the Club experienced the heartbreak of losing in two successive play-off semi-finals in seasons 2008/2009 and 2009/2010, both of which to the eventual play-off winners. In season 2010/2011, the Knights again narrowly missed out on a play-off place, having lost a deciding last game of the season.

The Knights have received many plaudits for their collective efforts, and have gained the reputation among their peers as being a highly respected, well-run football club. Their originality and flair for sports have led the Knights to become the first local football club to create a foundation, named the Mdina Knights Foundation. It is through this foundation that MKFC aims to instil genuine values of sports through the development of social, educational and sporting activities, to promote social well-fare and to bolster its commitment to act as a distinctive model to local sports.

Season 2010/2011 also saw the creation of the Mdina Knights Soccer School, with the aim of serving as an educational institution for the younger members of the community, developing not only the footballing talent of its students but also their character.

The Mdina Knights Football Club has also won plaudits for the individual efforts of their players, not least Ayrton Buhagiar. Ayrton, always a model of consistency, delivered an astonishing 2008/2009 season, collecting both the 3rd Division Top Scorer Award, as well as the 3rd Division Best Player Award.

In order to celebrate the milestone of 5 successful years as a Football Club, one which the founding members would hardly have imagined would plan out so well, Mdina Knights Football Club can announce that there are commemorative key chains which can be ordered through the Club’s website www.mdinaknightsfc.com.
