Maltese referees for Premier League match in Ireland

Another referee exchange has materialised with the Football Association of Ireland, and in fact, a team of three officials will be going over to the Republic of Ireland to officiate a top level league match.

Elite Referee Trustin Farrugia Cann together with FIFA Assistant Referee Konrad G. Borg and Elite Assistant Referee Duncan Sultana, with Tomas Connelly (FA of Ireland) as 4th Official, will be in charge of the Airtricity League Premier Division match UCD vs Drogheda United to be played at Belfield Bowl, Dublin on Saturday 13th October.

On Friday evening the match officials will attend and experience the Republic of Ireland vs Germany 2014 World Cup Qualifier as guests of the Football Association of Ireland.

Early next year referees from the Republic of Ireland will be coming over to Malta to control a BOV Premier League match.

The opportunities which are being given to our Elite Category Referees to officiate matches overseas – such as in this case of Trustin Farrugia Cann who will be making his debut as a referee in international football in the Republic of Ireland – are an important investment in the refereeing sector.

The Malta FA is leaving no stone unturned to provide the best possible opportunities to our referees for their progress and development. Such exposure to international football is indeed one of the most appropriate ways to motivate referees and enhance their refereeing standard.
