BOV Women's Division 1: Comfortable wins for Hibs, B'Kara

Hibernians and Birkirkara registered comfortable wins in the BOV Women’s First Division on Tuesday as they defeated Gozo and Tarxien Rainbows respectively.

At the Sirens Stadium, Hibernians defeated Gozo 4-0. The Paolites were a superior side throughout the ninety minutes, taking a two-goal lead by the end of the first half through an Ylenia Carabott brace. Dionne Tonna and Francesca Chircop increased the lead after the break.

In another match at the same venue, champions Birkirkara proved too strong for Tarxien Rainbows beating them 8-0 and had goalkeeper Dorianne Grech not performed a series of good saves, the score could have been bigger.

The Stripes enjoyed a three-goal lead by the end of the first half thanks to a brace by Gabriella Zahra and an own goal. After the break, Rachel Cuschieri scored four goals and Sacha Camilleri marked her return from a long-term injury with a goal to seal the issue.

Leaders Mosta maintained their positive run with a 3-0 win over Pembroke Athleta at the Pembroke Ground.

The Blues scored three times in the first half through Dorianne Theuma, Natasha Pace and Jade Flask but after the break, Pembroke defended well to deny them the opportunity to increase the lead.

At the Charles Abela Stadium, an own goal handed Mgarr United the three points as they defeated Hamrun Spartans 1-0.

The game was a balanced affair with both teams creating their fair share of scoring opportunities. The all-important goal was scored on the half-hour as some misunderstanding between the Hamrun goalkeeper and a defender following a cross by Tiziana Fenech ended in an own goal.

Meanwhile in the BOV Women’s Second Division, Kirkop United kept the pace with leaders Raiders (Luxol) as they defeated Fgura United 3-0 at the Fgura Ground.

After a balanced start, Kirkop soon started to hold the initiative, taking the lead three minutes from the end of the first half through Martina Bonello following a series of corners. After the break, Krystle Attard doubled the score and substitute Emma Moore sealed the issue with a third goal.

In another match, Vittoriosa Stars defeated Lija / Iklin 3-2 at the Zebbug Ground.

Rodianne Vassallo put Lija / Iklin ahead on 25 minutes but Vittoriosa levelled matters thanks to a penalty by Kylie Monaco seven minutes in the second half. Leanne Attard put the Stars ahead on 67 minutes.

Lija / Iklin restored equilibrium five minutes from time but three minutes later, after Rodianne Vassallo was sent off for Lija / Iklin, Vittoriosa notched the winner thanks to another Kylie Monaco penalty.
