Gozo FA competitions kick-off this weekend

Gozo-Football-AssociationCompetitions organised by the Gozo Football Association kick-off this weekend with the quarter-finals of the First Division Knock-Out and the Second Division Knock-Out. The First Division Knock-Out, reserved for the eight First Division clubs, will be replacing the Independence Cup, which together with the Tazza Jum il-Ħelsien, will not be played as from this season.

All Gozitan clubs, except for Gharb Rangers and Zebbug Rovers, will then participate in the U*BET FA Trophy.

The Second Division League, this season featuring Ghajnsielem, Gharb Rangers, Qala Saints, Sannat Lions, St. Laurence Spurs and Zebbug Rovers, is set to start on September 11 with a clash between Sannat Lions and Ghajnsielem at the Kercem Ground. This venue will be used for senior GFA competitions together with the Gozo Stadium and Sannat Ground.

The format of the league is based on three rounds.

The First Division League kicks-off on Saturday 14. There will be eight teams, namely Kercem Ajax, Munxar Falcons, Nadur Youngsters, Oratory Youths, S.K. Victoria Wanderers, Victoria Hotspurs and Xewkija Tigers. Teams will be playing a two-round league basis with the eight teams then being divided into the Championship Pool and the Relegation Pool. Teams will be carrying with them the total points to the second phase.

The GFA Cup is scheduled to start in November, featuring the fourteen First and Second Division clubs.

With the First and Second Division leagues due to come to an end during the weekend 19/20 April, the semi-finals of the GFA Cup will be played on the 23rd and 24th April. The GFA Cup final is scheduled for April 27 and the Super Cup final for May 1st.
