Nadur Youngsters extended their positive run at the top of the Melita First Division in Gozo as they defeated St. Lawrence Spurs 3-0 to stay four points clear of Xewkija Tigers.
Claudio Antunes put Nadur ahead on 16 minutes and Joseph Vella scored twice in the final four minutes to seal the issue.
A goal two minutes from time by Dene Shields enabled Xewkija to keep the pace with the leaders as they beat bottom-placed Sannat Lions 1-0.
Last week Victoria Hotspurs defeated SK Victoria Wanderers 2-0 in the derby with two goals by Ferdinando Apap and Rodney Buttigieg in the final seven minutes. On the other hand, Kercem Ajax defeated Oratory Youths 3-1, courtesy of goals by Andrew Mizzi on the 2nd, Anderson Ribeiro on the 66th and Mario Mifsud on the 90th with Mark Camilleri scoring the temporary equaliser on the 7th minute.
Nadur lead the way with 22 points, followed by Xewkija on 19, Kercem 16, Oratory 11, Victoria Hotspurs 10, SKVW 7, St. Lawrence 5 and Sannat 1.
In the Melita Second Division, Ghajnsielem continue to lead the way with 22 points, followed by Munxar on 16, Gharb, Qala and Zebbug 10 and Xaghra 9.
Zebbug Rovers defeated Qala Saints 3-1 – goals by Matthion Formosa (2) and Samuel Muscat for Zebbug and Manuel Buttigieg for Qala while Munxar Falcons beat Gharb Rangers 2-1 thanks to goals by Frank Paul Azzopardi and Stefan Farrugia with Frank Attard reducing the gap for Gharb.
Last week, Qala defeated Gharb 2-1 with goals by Josef Galea and John Rapa for Qala and Stephen Apap for Gharb while Ghajnsielem defeated Xaghra United 2-1 with Daniel Bartolo putting Xaghra ahead and Jason Portelli and Kenny Hili turning the score in the Blacks’ favour.
