The Malta Football Association is backing the nomination of Prince Ali bin Hussein of Jordan in his battle with Sepp Blatter for the FIFA presidency. Prince Ali is a FIFA vice-president and the president of the Jordan Football Association since 1999.
Blatter is bidding for a fifth term in office at the election in May, and four candidates have declared their intention to stand against him. These include French former FIFA executive Jerome Champagne, Portuguese legend Luis Figo and Dutch Sports director Michael van Praag.
Nominations closed on Friday and each candidate needed the backing of at least five of FIFA’s 209 member associations and have been involved in football in an official capacity for two of the past five years.
The FA is believed to be one of the associations backing Prince Ali.
