The 5th edition of the TeamSporT Goalkeeper Battle, which will be held on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st May at the Infetti Football Ground in Birkirkara, was launched on Thursday at the Teamsport outlet in Iklin by Simon Grech and Mario Muscat.
For the second consecutive year, all profit generated from sponsors and the gates will be going to Zemzem Foundation which is a voluntary organization which provides financial assistance to patients suffering from leukaemia.
The main attraction in this fifth edition will be an exhibition goalkeepers’ battle between Malta international goalkeepers Andrew Hogg and Justin Haber.
The Goalkeeper Battle will be open for eight categories, namely Under-9, Under-11, Under-13, Under-15, Under-17, Under-19, Seniors and Girls. It is open for up to 32 goalkeepers in each category. The thirty-two goalkeepers will be grouped in fours with two goalkeepers from each group reaching the knock-out stage which will be played on Sunday.
Each game has a duration of four minutes and all games are controlled by MFA referees.
All participants will receive a Macron Goalkeeper kit, Numero 1 Goalkeeper gloves and a commemorative medal. The winners, runner-up and third-placed in each category will be presented with a trophy – the gold glove, the silver glove and the bronze glove while there will be another two awards – one for the goalkeeper who scores most goals and another for the one who concedes the least goals.
Application forms can be obtained from all clubs and nurseries around Malta and Gozo, Teamsport in Iklin, Di Milano in Paola, the Infetti Ground and from the Luxol Ground on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 16:30 to 18:00.
