Beach Soccer: National team finishes 11th in Mediterranean Beach Games

The Malta Beach Soccer national team finished 11th in the first edition of the Mediterranean Beach Games which were held in Pescara, Italy.

Malta was drawn in Group B along with Egypt, Morocco and Turkey. Malta lost the first game to Morocco 2-7 on Wednesday, then 2-11 to Egypt on Thursday and 0-14 to Turkey on Friday. Egypt claimed maximum points from the group, followed by Morocco on six points and Turkey three.

In the matches for the 9th to 12th place, Malta lost 2-5 to Albania but in the match for the 11th and 12th place, Malta beat Algeria 7-6.

The players at the disposal of coach Mark Marlow were Ivan Cassar and Roderick Camilleri, Ronald Spina, Julian Briffa, Justin Camilleri, Mark Camilleri, George Frendo, Ronnie Celeste, Gilbert Martin and Diego Armando Cucciardi.

Throughout the competition, George Frendo scored four, Ronnie Celeste three, Julian Briffa two, Mark Camilleri, Justin Camilleri, Gilbert Martin and Diego Cucciardi one.
