Santa Lucia closed in on leaders Marsaxlokk in the BOV Third Division as they registered an important win over Mdina Knights while Marsaxlokk were held in a draw by Dingli Swallows in two of the six matches in programme on Saturday.
At the Charles Abela Stadium, Santa Lucia defeated Mdina Knights 2-1. Daniel Cluett put Mdina ahead on the 14th minute but Santa Lucia turned the score in their favour thanks to goals by Marlon Farrugia on the half-hour and Gaynor D’Amato seven minutes later.
In another match at the same venue, Dingli Swallows scored late in the game to hold Marsaxlokk in a 1-1 draw. Alain Pierre Courtadon put the Southseasiders ahead on the 65th but Luke Galea equalised for the Swallows two minutes from time.
Ghaxaq moved fourth thanks to a 2-0 win over Xghajra Tornados at the Luxol Stadium thanks to goals by Noel Bilocca on the 43rd and Florin Anton on the 90th.
After suffering three consecutive defeats, Marsaskala returned to winning ways as they beat Ta’ Xbiex 2-0 at the Sirens Stadium. Kyle Azzopardi opened the score after just five minutes and Mark Spiteri converted a penalty eleven minutes from time to make it 2-0.
A late goal by Yau Mun Law gave St. Venera Lightnings a narrow win over Luqa St. Andrew’s in another match at the Sirens Stadium.
On the other hand, Mtarfa beat Kalkara 2-0 at the Luxol Stadium. Daniel Cilia put Mtarfa ahead on the 19th and Josef Bouzgenda doubled the score six minutes in the second half.
Marsaxlokk lead the way with 42 points, followed by Santa Lucia on 41, Attard 37, Ghaxaq 36, Mdina 35, Marsaskala 33, Dingli 32, Sta. Venera 18, Luqa 17, Kalkara 16, Xghajra 15, Mtarfa 13 and Ta’ Xbiex 11.
