A decider is necessary to determine the championship in the Gozo Football League as last season’s champions Xewkija Tigers defeated leaders Ghjansielem 3-0 on Sunday to join them on the 44-point mark.
The Blacks, who were leading the table by six points upto last week when they suffered their first defeat of the season as they lost to Kercem, had Mark Muscat sent off on the 16th minute and Xewkija took the lead a minute later thanks to Thiago Melo Dos Santos. Dene Shields doubled the score on the 53rd and nine minutes later, Shields sealed the issue with the third goal.
Kercem Ajax defeated Victoria Hotspurs 2-1 in another match on Sunday. John Paul Grima put the Hotspurs ahead on the 3rd minute but Shaun Attard equalised on the 31st and Andrew Mizzi notched the winner on the 89th.
On Saturday, SK Victoria Wanderers defeated Oratory Youths 1-0 thanks to a goal by Mark Buhagiar on the 74th.
In the Gozo Football League Second Division, champions Xaghra United and Nadur Youngsters shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw with Oliver Farrugia putting Xaghra ahead on the 42nd and Christian Debono equalising on the 51st.
On Wednesday, Munxar Falcons defeated Qala Saints 5-1. Daniel Pace (7th), Anthony Attard (43rd), Josef Debrincat (58th) and Daniel Pace (68th) put Munxar four goals ahead with Carlton Mifsud reducing the gap on the 69th but Kersten Grima scoring a fifth for the Falcons eight minutes from time.
In another match, Sannat Lions and Gharb Rangers shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw. Frank Attard put Gharb ahead on the 16th and Josiah Buttigieg equalising on the 84th.
