Xewkija Tigers move six points clear

A goal by Thiago Melo dos Santos on the 28th minute was enough for Xewkija Tigers to beat Victoria Hotspurs 1-0 on Sunday to move six points clear in the BOV Gozo Football League First Division.

Nadur Youngsters returned to winning ways on Friday as they beat Ghajnsielem 3-1 and leapfrog the Blacks in second place. Shaun Attard opened the scoring on the 28th minute and two minutes from half-time, Milos Stojanovic doubled the score. John Camilleri pulled one back on the 81st but Claudio Antunes sealed the issue with a third goal two minutes later.

In another match, Kercem Ajax defeated Xaghra United 6-3. Antonio Laskov converted a penalty after just two minutes to put Xaghra ahead but another penalty, seven minutes later by Gustavo Franca Amadio restored equilibrium. Trayo Grozev made it 2-1 for Kercem on the 11th before adding another on the 28th. The Bulgarian striker converted a penalty five minutes in the second half to extend the lead further. Gerald Tushe scored a second goal for Xaghra from a penalty on the 53rd but two minutes later, another penalty – the fifth of the game, converted by Gustavo Franca Amadio made it 5-2. Amadio added another on the 80th before Michael Bezzina reduced the gap for Xaghra one minute later.

In the BOV Gozo Football League Second Division, St. Lawrence Spurs joined Gharb Rangers on top thanks to a 4-2 win over Munxar Falcons at the Kercem Ajax Stadium on Saturday. Jordi Parnis put Munxar ahead on the 28th but Charlon Tabone equalised on the 28th. Christopher Cauchi made it 2-1 four minutes in the second half and Mohamed Senussi Telessi 3-1 nine minutes later. Kenneth Mizzi reduced the gap on the 69th but after Mohamed Senussi Telessi had a penalty saved by the goalkeeper, Marlon Mamo made it 4-2 nine minutes from time.

Sannat Lions failed to take the top spot after being held in a 1-1 draw by Zebbug Rovers. The latter forged ahead thanks to Ikechukwu Igwemeke four minutes in the second half but Sunday Baala rescued a point with a goal five minutes from time.
