Gozo: Top teams register wins

Xewkija Tigers kept marching on in the BOV Gozo Football League First Division as they defeated Oratory Youths 3-0 at the Gozo Stadium on Sunday.

Daniel Sakic put Xewkija ahead on the 9th minute and after Oratory had a player sent off, Xewkija added another two goals by Rodney Buttigieg on the 78th and 87th.

Dewide dos Santos was the hero for Nadur Youngsters with a hat-trick as they defeated SK Victoria Wanderers 3-1. Ian Xuereb put the Wanderers ahead just before half-time but goals by the Brazilian on the 50th, 51st and 85th gave Nadur the three points.

On Saturday, Kercem Ajax registered a 5-1 win over Xaghra United. Gustavo Franca Amadio put the Ajax ahead on the 4th minute and although Xaghra had a player sent off, they equalised through Daniel Sowatey on the 27th. However Kercem regained the lead through Phil Taylor on the 39th and added another three goals through Gustavo Franca Amadio on the 41st, Petar Kyumyurdzhiev on the 68th and Gustavo Franca Amadio on the 70th.

Ghajnsielem came from behind to beat Victoria Hotspurs 2-1. Henrique Maciel put the Hotspurs ahead five minutes from the end of the first half but goals by Emiliano Lattes on the 49th and John Camilleri on the 72nd gave the Blacks the three points.

In the BOV Gozo Football League Second Division, St. Lawrence Spurs kept marching on as they defaeted Qala Saints 4-1 at the Kercem Ajax Stadium on Friday. Mohammed Senussi Telessi opened the score on the 10th minute, Charles Mercieca made it 2-0 on the 26th and following another goal by Senussi on the 66th, Jason Portelli made it 4-0 on the 73rd. Brian Meilak pulled one back for Qala with a 93rd minute penalty.

In another match, Munxar Falcons defeated Zebbug Rovers 3-1 thanks to goals by Michael Mattias Uzor (penalty) on the 15th, Oliver Saliba on the 51st and Jordi Parnis on the 59th with Chris Borg reducing the gap for Zebbug on the 69th.
Ejofor Nkwocha missed a penalty for Zebbug six minutes from time.

Meanwhile Oratory Youths and Xewkija Tigers will be contesting the final of the First Division Knock-Out following Wednesday’s semi-finals.

Oratory Youths were awarded a walk-over in the game against Victoria Hotspurs while Xewkija Tigers defeated Ghajnsielem 1-0 thanks to a goal by Dene Shields on the half-hour. Chris Camilleri could have doubled the score but hit high when awarded a penalty before the end of the first half.
